The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) in collaboration with the Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) has commenced the preliminary interactions aimed at conducting a Company-Community Assessment Study of the Column Coal Mine in Sinazeze’s Nkandabbwe area.

It is the desire of the Council of Churches in Zambia to ensure there is transparency and accountability in the management of the country’s resources and having a right perception by all stakeholders.

From the engagement the team learnt that the mine has constructed a new dormitory for girls and an ablution block at NKandabbwe Day Secondary School in the area as a way of ploughing back to the community in which it operates.

However, the mine was not willing to disclose all the needed information to the team. It is therefore envisaged that by the end of this project there will be an enhancement in transparency and accountability.
